Cut, Paste, Ground
You may have dabbled in the art of collage, perhaps in middle school art class, maybe putting together a "vision board," or scrap-booking. Perhaps you're an artist with more extensive collaging experience. But have you ever stepped inside of a collage? Walked its halls, entered its doors, explored its hidden rooms?
Last Friday, at the opening of Cut, Paste, Ground, visitors were invited to immerse themselves in an office jungle of collage—a mixture of repurposed 2- and 3-D material that smattered walls, crawled up ceilings, clung to molding, and embellished old workstations, creating layers of color, texture, shape, and line. But the exhibit also created layers of time and energy, playing with relics of the 90's left behind from a former office space, inviting play in a place built for business, pasting scraps of renewal in a space of decay, and fostering community in a place of abandonment.
This Friday (10/10), the EDC invites you to create your own mixtures of meaning by creating collage works with guidance from artists and change-makers Michelle Geiss, Rachel Adams, and Alyssa Dennis. This collaging workshop will allow artists of all stripes and experience levels to tap into attention and curiosity, urging new ways to look at artifacts of the past while inviting mindful presence.
Materials will be provided, but participants are encouraged to bring old magazines, photographs, fabrics, or any materials you'd like to repurpose. |
