As we continue our year-long exploration of antidotes to toxicity, we’re reminded that no remedy—ecological, social, or imaginative—emerges in isolation. The systems that poison our air, bodies, and institutions also work to erode the collective capacity required to transform them. Building people power, then, becomes a potent antidote as a way of repairing the social fabric, restoring agency, and designing new conditions for livable worlds. In moments when toxicity feels diffuse and immeasurable, it is the solidarities we forge across disciplines, neighborhoods, and ecosystems that offer the most potent counterforce.
Our community calendar is full of opportunities to engage, support, create, and challenge each other's thinking. Look out for new events, and we hope you'll share some of your own. We look forward to building with you! |

Have you ever heard of 'passive' design?
A passive house is air-tight and highly insulated—so thermally efficient that, ideally, you don’t need to install any mechanical heating at all. But does this strategy return dwellers to their environment or separate them from it? What design traditions does it emerge from?
Next Tuesday, EDC Curator Michael Degani will guide us through a critical cultural history of the passive house and lead an open discussion on where such design sensibilities might fit within just energy transitions. Be part of the conversation!
You can join this event virtually on the EDC platform:
Tuesday, November 25th
10:00 - 11:00 AM EST |

Join the EDC for a conversation on communities of repair at Station North Tool Library
|
| |
|
How can we share resources and knowledge to foster a culture of material repair that also repairs our community ties?
In the face of capitalism's toxicity, we can find some antidotes and “cures” in local initiatives, such as tool libraries, repair groups, and communities.
This event will be a conversation between the Station North Tool Library in Baltimore (USA) and the Restarters BCN collective in Barcelona (Spain) to share learnings, achievements, difficulties, challenges, and to imagine together how to continue to be an antidote to the toxicity of fast and individualized consumerism. |
