Jacobs reminded us that cities thrive through the everyday presence, care, and participation of neighbors β that vibrant public life emerges from many βeyes on the street,β not from isolated acts of expertise.
This one-hour participatory session will begin with a brief introduction to Jacobs and a short video, followed by interactive activities focused on Patterson Park. Together, weβll map active and quieter edges of the park, discuss where we see vitality and safety, and reflect on what Jacobs might celebrate β or question β if she visited today.
The Ecological Design Collectiveβs mission β that good design demands ecological sensibility, responsiveness to complexity, and shared agency β resonates deeply with the spirit of this gathering. This event invites not only designers, but all community members, to reflect on how spaces like Patterson Park are shaped by lived experience, layered relationships, and unpredictable possibilities.
All are welcome. Letβs explore together how ecological thinking and community wisdom can help us see familiar places in new ways.
