Join Baltimore Tree Trust and Baltimore Spirits Company this Thursday, Feb 22, for cocktails and conversation on Maryland’s state tree, the white oak! Guest speakers will explore the vast ecological value of this foundational species, its importance as a raw material in many industries, and why it is currently facing an uncertain future amid a complex range of threats to its survival.
Baltimore Spirits Co. founder and head distiller Eli Breitburg-Smith will give an in-depth look into whisky distillation and why white oak is especially suited to this process. Baltimore Tree Trust’s Managing Director, Elliot Weidow, will also be present to discuss community-level planting, while Kendall McCoach, PhD student at the University of Delaware, will lend her white oak expertise and share details on the US Forest Service’s Native Oak Tree Regeneration Study, led by Research Ecologist Dr. Nancy Sonti.
The event will be held at the Tasting Room at Baltimore Spirits Company, located at Union Collective, and starts at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are available at the link below.
