Pennsylvania State University Recruiting a new Ph.D. student for Fall 2025
Chiara Lo Prete in the Leone Family Department of Energy and Mineral Engineering (EME) at Penn State University is recruiting a motivated Ph.D. student to work on the project “SH2INE: Sustainable, Holistic Hydrogen INtegration Evaluation: models and analyses of human, environmental and policy dimensions”. The project seeks to enhance understanding of hydrogen integration with other energy systems and grid infrastructure, and its potential for supporting a just energy transition. Lo Prete’s team will focus on coupling a regional model of gas-electric systems with a model for hydrogen production, storage and distribution developed by the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), and a transportation sector model developed by Prof. Zhaomiao Guo’s team at UT Austin.
Applicants with a Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., operations research, applied mathematics, energy systems engineering) are strongly encouraged to apply. Competitive candidates will have a background in optimization, a keen interest in energy markets and economics, and familiarity with GAMS, Matlab and other programming languages.
