Слава Україні! Slava Ukraini! Glory to Ukraine! Posters from the Odesa City Letters Project
On display: February 19 – March 15, 2024

Opening reception: Thursday, February 22, 2024 (4:30-7:00pm, MICA Brown Center, 3rd Floor), celebrating Ukrainian food and music, with the Baltimore-Odesa Sister City Committee musicians Sasha & Volodymyr Sukhin

The exhibit marks the second anniversary of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022. First on display at The Cooper Union in New York, the exhibit includes a selection of posters from OdesaCityLetters, a museum devoted to lettering legacy in Odesa, Ukraine, celebrating Ukrainian culture, design, and typography. The posters are a small sampling of hundreds of posters created using a traditional style of Ukrainian graphics and typography, and including powerful, moving, and witty statements about Ukrainian courage and culture in the face of Russian aggression.

The exhibit was first on display in New York City at The Cooper Union. Lee Davis, Co-Director of the MICA Center for Social Design is curating the exhibit in Baltimore with Alexander Tochilovsky, Director of the Herb Lubalin Study Center of Design and Typography at The Cooper Union, in collaboration with Serhiy Rovynskyi, the creator of OdesaCityLetters in Odesa.

The exhibit will be on display in Baltimore from February 19-March 15, 2024, at two locations to increase access and visibility:

– MICA Brown Center (1301 W Mt Royal Ave, Baltimore, MD 21217) – 3rd floor graphic design gallery

– Center for Architecture and Design (100 N Charles St Suite P-101, Baltimore, MD 21201) – in the Center’s gallery in downtown Baltimore on the ground floor of the landmark building designed by Mies van der Rohe.

The OdesaCityLetters exhibits are made possible thanks to our collaborating partners: The Cooper Union, MICA Digital Print Lab, MICA Graduate Studies | GradMix, MICA Graphic Design, MICA Provost’s Office, Baltimore-Odesa Sister City Committee, Baltimore Center for Architecture & Design, Ecological Design Collective, AIGA Baltimore, and BMoreArt.

The posters on display may be acquired for a suggested donation of $125 each. 100% of donations, minus printing costs, will be sent to OdesaCityLetters in support of the Ukrainian war effort. If you are interested in acquiring a poster, contact Lee Davis at ldavis03@mica.edu.
