Environmental Justice Hearing in Baltimore
August 24, 2022 @ 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm EDT
From the South Baltimore Community Land Trust:
Join us on August 24th at 5pm for the second City Council hearing on the massive explosion at the CSX coal terminal.
SBCLT, in partnership with the Community of Curtis Bay Association, is working to turn the block of vacant homes that sit 1,000 feet from the coal pile into healthy stable places to call home. We cannot achieve this vision alone and are asking for your support. We must unite around a call for our City Officials to do everything in their power to address the ongoing health threat of an open air coal terminal operating so close to a Recreation center, homes and businesses. Aug 24th is the day to show up and demand action.
Federal and State officials have issued findings pointing to critical worker health and safety violations. Curtis Bay resident Ray Conway clarified what this news means, “It shows they don’t care about their workers, so they obviously don’t care about the neighborhood.”
Residents have long pointed to the Coal terminal as a major source of the dust we breathe in everyday and wipe off the sides of our homes, air conditioners and cars. Our question now, will we see real relief to an injustice as visible as the coal dust we suffer from everyday alongside the bold statements from our President down to our Mayor and City Council for environmental justice?
