Vital Matters (www.vitalmatters.net) to flow through our year of Water, Community and Care with this global event. Global Water Dances invites us to engage with our local watersheds, and the water-related issues that are crucial to the health of our ecosystems and the humans who are a part of them. Much progress has been made in recent years by Maryland and Baltimore government agencies and not for profit organizations to address the challenges facing us. As we face the potential loss of federal funding to environmental justice and other projects meant to mitigate the effects of pollution, climate change, and more, we need to fortify our local efforts, with money, advocacy and activism, volunteer hours, and also by continuing to dream big, despite current setbacks.

Water connects us to our dreaming.

Although considered a culminating event for many partipating, for us at Vital Matters, this year’s day of global connection is a stop along the way in a stream of events and gatherings that started with our showing of the film Water is Love in March, and continues with our public art project Crossways, which is currently investigating connections between water and community along the Gwynns Falls watershed, with folks who live there.

Water is a force to be reckoned with.

It so happens that this year Global Water Dances and Pride are on the same day, and so is the next big Nationwide March, planned as an antidote to 47’s $90 million birthday parade. This makes Global Water Dances an opportunity to ground our activism and commitment to social and political change in the Earth and the flow of Water, on the morning of these big days of protest and celebration. This means also connecting to our grief, and inviting water to help us let go of and mourn what we have lost, and remind us how to stay in flow amidst all the shocks and changes happening all around us.

Water is the first medicine, the source of our vitality, and a source of creativity. Tap in!

Join Valeska Populoh, Sanahara Ama Chandra, Sister Stream Catcher and Vital Matters founder Michele Minnick for gatherings along Herring Run that celebrate water through ritual, poetry, dance, and somatic movement.

There are various levels of participation possible in this event. You can:
–Rehearse (June 7, June 11) and perform in the Global Water Dance on June 14.
–Join us for the June 7 Gathering only. We will walk, explore, sound, move, prepare.
–Just show up on June 14 to participate in the Ritual and Participatory Dance.
