The care economy involves unpaid and paid work of caregiving and domestic labor, predominantly performed by women. In India, this sector is crucial for societal well-being yet remains undervalued and invisible in economic planning. The climate crisis, on the other hand, exacerbates gendered inequalities in caregiving responsibilities, as environmental degradation, resource scarcity, and climate-induced displacement place additional burdens on women.
Through SA-SNALC’s next webinar ‘Care Economy and Climate Change’, we aim to address pressing questions arising from key intersections of the care economy and climate change.
We are delighted to have Sona Mitra, PhD – Director- Policy and Research at IWWAGE, as our expert for this webinar. This webinar discusses Dr Sona’s experiences, nuances of the intersection and explore actionable pathways for policy integration, climate-resilient care systems, climate induced livelihood changes and their impact on care, and the role of gender equity in climate adaptation. Her presentation will be followed by a round of Q&A with the audience.
