SUMMARY:EDC Book Club: Ministry for the Future by Kim Stanley Robinson
DESCRIPTION:“We’re in a science fiction novel\, as a culture. Science fiction is the realism of our time\, as I’ve been saying over and over again. It’s the best way to describe the world that we’re in.” \nWe’re kicking off the EDC Book Club with a discussion of Kim Stanley Robinson’s recent cli-fi novel\, Ministry for the Future. Join EDC curators and anthropologists Anand Pandian and Mike Degani to chat about this engrossing book. \nWednesday\, January 24\, 2024 \n1-2pm EST \nEDC Meeting Room \nEDC Meeting Room \n \nHere’s a recent Jacobin interview with the author (source of the quote above):https://jacobin.com/2020/10/kim-stanley-robinson-ministry-future-science-fiction \nFor those who can’t join live that day\, please share your thoughts via the discussion thread about the book in the EDC Book Club space. We’ll continue the conversation there. \nStay tuned for another book event each month\, and please join the EDC Book Club to take part in our discussions and share your own favorite reads!

SUMMARY:Tide Pool Social: Passages for a New Year [IN PERSON]
DESCRIPTION:Have you reckoned a thousand acres much? Have you reckoned the earth much? \n\n\n\nHave you practiced so long to learn to read? \n\n\n\nHave you felt so proud to get at the meaning of poems? \nWalt Whitman\n\n\n\nJoin the Ecological Design Collective at Red Emma’s on January 25th at 5:00pm for our monthly Tide Pool Social gathering. Get to know other members and curators of the collective\, and share a passage (prose\, poetry\, lyrics) that invites reflection on ecological themes and/ or nurtures growth for the new year. We will meet in the cafe at one of the long work tables. Can’t make it but want to give us some prose to chew on? Drop a passage in the comments under this event post—we’ll make sure to give it a dramatic reading! (Give some style notes for our accomplished voice actors\, if you wish!)
