    Hi all,

I am pleased to share that my group, the Data-Driven EnviroLab (DDL), housed within the University of North Carolina’s Institute for the Environment, is currently recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join our interdisciplinary research team. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a major initiative focused on evaluating the role of cities in global climate mitigation efforts.

The successful candidate will play a key role in developing urban-scale geospatial models and analytical workflows that integrate satellite remote sensing, Integrated Assessment Models (IAMs), and large-scale geospatial datasets. The overarching goal of this project is to assess and model the climate mitigation potential of cities around the world and their alignment with global climate targets.

I am seeking a candidate with strong quantitative and technical skills, ideally with the following qualifications:

    • Proficiency in geospatial data analysis using Python or R; experience with Google Earth Engine is highly preferred
    • Experience with machine learning and spatial statistics, particularly as applied to environmental or urban datasets
    • Background in urban emissions modeling, greenhouse gas accounting, or evaluation of climate and sustainability policies
    • Demonstrated ability to work with large-scale datasets in cloud-based or high-performance computing environments

In this role, the postdoctoral researcher will collaborate with a diverse team of scientists, modelers, and policy experts, contributing to peer-reviewed publications, public-facing tools, and policy-relevant research outputs. The position also offers opportunities for leadership in interdisciplinary research at the intersection of urbanization, climate change, and data science.

Additional information about the position and application instructions can be found here: https://unc.peopleadmin.com/postings/304122.

I would be grateful if you could circulate this opportunity within your networks or recommend individuals who may be a strong fit. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly with any questions or suggestions.

    Best wishes,

    Angel
