“What does a melting glacier sound like?”

Check out this op-doc from the New York Times on Ludwig Berger’s efforts to preserve the sounds of dying glaciers.

The sounds he’s collected are remarkable — They sound like they are being produced by animals, insects, or synthesizers, sitting between the organic and the mechanical. He argues that the idea of the glacier having a “voice” allows us to grant the glacier personhood and stop thinking about the Arctic only in terms of resources.
