Hello EDC world, I am sharing some of the pictures that I took during my brief fieldwork on a refugee island in Bangladesh. This island is situated in the middle of the sea, newly emerged and transformed from an inhabitable place into the world’s largest refugee camp. Climate change is a serious concern for this island, given its location below sea level. However, it is surviving with a massive embankment and other coastal infrastructures.

Really great photo essay! The contrast between the model encampment photo and the mostly-vacant red-roofed camps, coupled with the photo of the improvised fishing boat, was evocative of a deficient “engineering/ planning” mindset as it confronts these contingencies, compared to the resilience and ingenuity of these communities as they piece together livelihoods in the aftermaths of violence and climate catastrophe.
