SEEKING WRITERS AND DIRECTORS
The Sixth Fest is making a new climate play that will be going up this spring in New York and is beginning writing now. We’re going to have something of a writers’ room like on a tv show because the play is expansive and needs a variety of voices. If interested, details and prompt below.
Dates:
Bulk of writing in February and March. Weekly meetings and some communications through the week.
Rehearsals begin April. Show goes up late May.
Pay:
For core writing team there’s $50 at the moment. We’re waiting to hear on a lot of grants which would increase pay if awarded.
If you are a performance artist or theater maker in any other way, most other positions are needed, **especially a director (higher pay)**
Prompt:
A natural disaster has hit New York. A Citizens’ Assembly has been formed to address the climate crisis. The play toggles between sessions of the assembly, the daily lives of main characters at the assembly, an extremist climate group, real New York campaigns/orgs/struggles, the bankers and industries most responsible, and whatever else the writers can dream up! The tie is the assembly pulling everyone together but the narrative is anchored in our main characters and their own lives within this backdrop. The piece will include dance, poetry, hopefully a street drummer, and video from real sites and events around the city.
*Write a scene or speech within this context. People are selected at random for citizens’ assemblies, and probably do not already care about climate. Write from their perspective going home, or about something you care about in New York. **YOU CAN ALSO JUST SUBMIT SOMETHING YOU ALREADY HAVE THAT YOU THINK IS REMINISCENT OF THIS PROJECT. WE’RE JUST LOOKING TO GET AN IDEA OF YOUR VOICE AND INTERESTS TO SEE IF PEOPLE ARE A FIT.**

Hi @Nate . I’m not a writer, though am excited to see what comes of this project. I’m a visual artist and work as a digital marketing consultant. If the need arises for these skills let me know.

How cool is this?? I love it. (I’m a writer, but not for theatre — I’m just pumped this is happening!)
