I wanted to share this essay by Marcela Olivera and Alexander Dwinell with this group! It’s been making me think a lot about what “public” space in Baltimore entails as it relates to communities and individuals feeling connected to, and being stewards of, their watersheds and basic means of existence. What does it mean on a conceptual but also on an everyday basis to be detached from the streams and rivers that flow beneath us? To be detached from a baseline ability to determine how language and layers of city development co-opt our yearning for generative connection? Some questions I’ve been meditating on and would love to discuss as a group!
