An elsewhere ecological collective – specifically for all Oceans research/arts interested people to join! – Zoom event series that might be of interest:
October 9 – November 27 OCEAN / UNI bárawa, an interdisciplinary & environmental Caribbean maroon event series with TBA21’s ocean comm/uni/ty.
“Bárawa… what a word convenes, what the Ocean convenes as an entity”
OCEAN/UNI is an art, activism and science initiative that invites fluid thinking with the Ocean as a way of moving beyond binary conceptions and the division between land and sea. The OCEAN/UNI curriculum offers students, researchers and the general public access to wide-ranging ideas and explorations through regular live sessions, reading groups, workshops and small-scale activations and other online materials, free and accessible to all at Ocean-Archive.org. With the aim of complementing and improving terrestrial understanding of the Planet, it covers a wide variety of ecological, political, aesthetic, ethical and scientific topics around the realities and futures of the Ocean.
OCEAN/UNI’s Fall 2024 semester, “bárawa” (“Ocean” in the Guatemalan Garifuna language) is conceived by curator Yina Jiménez Suriel as part of The Current IV: Caribbean, with assistance from Pietro Consolandi and the TBA21 Digital Team.
