UPDATED for NEW LOCATION and notes on participating in the public comment period: If you have been following the work on CSX’s coal dust pollution in Curtis Bay, consider joining Coal Free Curtis Bay for a solidarity action this Thursday at 5:30. We’ll be outside St Athanasius Church (4708 Prudence St, Baltimore, MD 21226) with banners and signs before the 6 p.m. MDE public hearing on its draft permit for the CSX coal terminal.
We do not aim to disrupt the hearing in any way,* but we do want to show broader community support for Curtis Bay & South Baltimore residents who want better protection from the pervasive coal dust that degrades human health & wellbeing in the community. Thank you!
*Please note: If you plan to attend the hearing and are considering making a comment, please read the following guidance from us (Coal Free Curtis Bay) about doing so in such a way that keeps the focus on the needs of those most impacted by the CSX coal terminal: “We want Curtis Bay & South Baltimore voices to be front and center at the hearing. We also want the entire time allowed for public comment is actually filled by comments from the public, so if you’re an ally from outside of South Baltimore, we encourage you to allow time and space for those most affected to speak first, and then to add your voice to the comments, as appropriate, to send the message to MDE that there is broad support for ending coal in Baltimore.” You can also participate in this hearing remotely, and submit a written comment to MDE.

Hi Anne thank you! It looks like the hearing location has been shifted now to the Athanasius church in Curtis Bay. Will the solidarity action also be moved?

@Anand Pandian yes! the new location is at that church, at 4708 Prudence Street. We don’t know the lay of the land there, so we’ll be improvising a bit in terms of exactly where we’ll gather and other details
