The "Highway to Nowhere" demolished homes and businesses, displacing predominantly Black residents for a six lane highway that was never completed. Now, inspired by a city pilot program in "Reconnecting Communities," students from the School of Architecture and Planning at Morgan State University are envisioning new scenarios for this abused area of Baltimore, led by EDC curator Cristina Murphy.
Join us next Tuesday for a showcase of three daring proposals for a sustainable urban village on the remains of this highway, with live commentary from a panel of Baltimore city planners and academics. Designing with and for communities can make such urban wastelands into better places, and begin to remedy the damage that has been done.
The event is one of many that EDC curators are planning for 2023, do stay tuned. But keep this in mind as well: the event calendar on our new community platform is truly meant as a community resource, a space for any EDC member to share details of an upcoming event. Sign in and give it a try! |
