Join the Ecological Design Collective for an exclusive tour of Cambium Carbon, a company transforming the urban wood supply chain through innovation and circular economy principles. Cambium partners with cities and local businesses to salvage fallen trees, keeping valuable materials out of landfills and giving them a second life as CarbonSmart™ wood—sustainable, high-quality lumber with a transparent and traceable supply chain.

During the tour, you’ll get an inside look at their workspace, learn how they are working with fallen lumber in our local urban environments and restoring local supply chains, and see firsthand how such endeavors can yield scalable climate solutions. The latest in our monthly 2024-2025 series on Reimagining Land. 

Join Kristine Roome, Andreas Bandak, and Daniel M. Knight as we follow the development of a public artwork that focuses on listening to the ecosystem! Last year on EcoArts Asad Raza revealed he has been commissioned to create a permanent art installation on the River Granta in Cambridgeshire. The Granta is a rare chalk stream sustaining the habitats for a range of wildlife. Well known for his collaborative approach to projects, Raza is partnering with ecologists, microbiologists and architects and now us here at the EDC. This is a unique opportunity to be part of an ongoing conversation with an artist in the process of creation.

The EDC invites proposals for digital events exploring the themes of Reimagining Land—an ongoing 2024–2025 itinerary that critically examines how land is shaped, contested, and reimagined through ecological, historical, and creative practices. Honoraria and other support will be available.

Through this initiative, EDC seeks to engage with land as both a material and symbolic space—one that carries histories of dispossession and resistance, ecological transformation, and speculative futures. Reimagining Land considers land not just as territory, property, or resource but as a site of deep cultural, political, and environmental entanglement. By fostering dialogue among artists, writers, designers, activists, and scholars, we aim to open new ways of thinking about how we inhabit, use, and care for land in the face of ongoing social and ecological change.

These virtual practitioner conversations, taking place in March, April, and May 2025, will extend the themes of Reimagining Land into an online space, complementing EDC’s Groundings series, which explores Baltimore’s ecology, history, and contemporary place-making efforts through experiential, site-based events.

• Community Vision Co-Design Seminar: On February 21st and 28th, the Morgan State University School of Architecture and Planning (SAP) is hosting a series of seminars at BluePrint Cafe that brings together students and Better Waverly residents. This gathering space allows everyone to connect over coffee in a relaxed atmosphere, fostering meaningful dialogue about the neighborhood’s future.
• What the Senses Tell, A Plant Medicine Perspective: The Peale Museum's exhibition on The Future of Here is an invitation to extend our senses into the landscape around us and the other futures it may promise. This workshop event with artist and herbalist Alyssa Dennis on Sunday, February 23rd will provide participants an opportunity to connect the exhibition experience with the medicinal gifts of the land in an embodied way, as we strive to meet our herbal allies in the city more intentionally.
• Climate Health Equity Day: Medical Students for a Sustainable Future (MS4SF) is excited to announce that we will be holding our annual conference, "Climate Health Equity Day: Our Patients, Our Planet, Our Future" on Saturday, March 1st, 2025 in the Washington DC area, in collaboration with the Medical Society Consortium on Climate and Health.
• Virtual seminars on Building Capacity for Sustainable Development: Join Harvard’s Sustainability Science Program, as they launch a new seminar series on sustainability. The seminar will be held virtually on February 26th from 12 pm to 1pm.
• Environmental Humanities Visiting Research Fellowships: The Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities at the University of Edinburgh welcomes applications for the 2025-26 Environmental Humanities Visiting Research Fellowships. Fellowships are two to four months long. The deadline for submission is 17:00 GMT on February 28th.
