The Multispecies Metropolis

May 4, 2023 @ 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm EDT

On Thursday, May 4th, University of Pennsylvania students in my course “Space/Power/Species” will be showcasing speculative architectures for animals in an end-of-term exhibition. Titled The Multispecies Metropolis, this exhibition will feature work from undergraduate students in Anthropology, Biology, Design, and Science, Technology, and Society majors as well as graduate students in Penn’s MFA, MArch, and MLA programs. Over the past semester, this interdisciplinary group of students has been conducting ethnographic fieldwork around the city of Philadelphia to understand how the built environment shapes human and animal relationships. In their speculative architectures, they will interrogate and re-imagine how we might dwell alongside animals in cities today.

If any of you are in the area, we’d love to show you our work! The exhibition will run from 4 to 7 PM in Dean’s Alley, located inside Meyerson Hall (the Weitzman School). Please feel free to contact me via the email address listed below or send me a message here if you have any questions!
