Virtual Tide Pool: Community Project Sprint

October 18, 2023 @ 12:00 pm

COMMUNITY PROJECT SPRINT: All day on October 18th, 2023, with a lunch break meetup at 12 noon EDT (meeting link)

Is there a project you’re working on that could use some new collaborators? Are you trying to launch a new project or event you’d like to brainstorm with others or network around? Or maybe you’re interested in crowdsourcing ideas for an environmental film watchlist, or a new writing or design project, with like-minded eco-critics? For this month’s virtual (and semi-asynchronous) Tide Pool Social, we’re calling on members and newcomers to the Ecological Design Collective to participate in a daylong “Community Project Sprint” this Wednesday, October 18th, anytime that day but especially at 12 noon EDT.

What to do:

  1. Take a look at our Projects forum. The link is on the left sidebar of our website. Past project forum posts have involved ecological farming, the concept of degrowth, and videogame design.
  1. Make your way to the Project forum on October 18th and share a project you’re working on. The goal of the forum is a place for EDC members to come together and share works in progress, nascent ideas, and collaboratively flesh them out with the help of the broader collective. Unlike the timeline—and individual group pages—our vision for this portion of the site is, to use an ecological metaphor, one of cross-pollination. Project posts serve to both open up conversations to the broad range of interests and skillsets that make up the collective, and provide a space on the site with a longer shelf-life than the event feed, affording opportunities for recurring engagement. Chat a message to Jonas on the platform if you need advice or quick fixes!
  1. Check out other projects and comment on what folks are posting! You never know what kind of insights you can lend to conversations that are otherwise outside of your comfort zone.
  1. Join us online for your lunch hour (or whatever 12:00pm EDT means for your timezone!) and chat, collaborate, and hang out with some curators and members of the EDC. We will meet on the EDC Platform’s meeting room. This could be a great time to get some early encouragement for a loose idea (if you have not had time to post yet!) or direct people towards something you’ve already had a chance to put out into the world.

See y’all on the platform on the 18th! Happy posting!

  1. Together with my Team (bArchitects) we are renting Carma Cafe’in Charles Village and converting it into a Placekeeping experience (Bakery during the day, Architecture office in the afternoon and evenings, and the space available “to take”for the community to engage with and organize activities. Through this Placekeeping experience, we propose a different way of spatial and social transformation, a way that does not displace people but retains intelligence in place.
